SS‑31, also known as Elamipretide, is a synthetic tetrapeptide that selectively targets mitochondria, the powerhouses of our cells. Research studies indicate due to aging, disease, or stress, mitochondrial membranes can deteriorate, causing less energy production and increased oxidative damage. SS‑31 binds to cardiolipin, a key lipid in the inner mitochondrial membrane, stabilizing its structure and restoring efficient energy generation.
