BPC‑157 (Body Protection Compound‑157) is a synthetic peptide derived from a protective protein found in human gastric juice. Known for its potential potent regenerative properties, BPC‑157 is studied in preclinical models for its effects on repair of soft tissues, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and the gastrointestinal tract. It purportedly works by modulating multiple growth and repair pathways, including angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels), fibroblast activation, nitric oxide signalling, and anti-inflammatory cascades, all of which are essential to the healing process.
Unlike many pharmaceutical options, preclinical studies of BPC‑157 report broad tissue-repair activity without evidence of immune suppression. Its effects are systemic despite being locally administered, with preliminary trial evidence showing accelerated repair in distant injuries including tendon tears, ulcers, and damaged blood vessels. BPC‑157 also appears in studies to play a key role in protecting the gastrointestinal lining, and gut-wall integrity, with research into gut–brain interactions, making it of particular interest in clinical trials related to managing leaky gut, Crohn’s disease, and NSAID-induced ulcers.
Due to its favourable safety profile, BPC‑157 is being used in clinical research and physician-directed wellness programs to support recovery from injury, enhance post-surgical healing, and address chronic inflammatory conditions.
