KPV is a short three-amino-acid peptide (lysine-proline-valine) derived from the tail end of α-MSH, a hormone the body produces naturally. α-MSH is best known for its role in pigmentation and energy balance, but it has also been studied for its effects on inflammation and immune response. What makes KPV interesting is that it keeps those anti-inflammatory and immune-calming properties of the parent hormone while leaving the pigmentation side of things alone. That gives it a more focused profile than α-MSH itself.
Most of the research on KPV centres on inflammation. It's been studied extensively in gut models, including colitis, IBD, and the integrity of the gut barrier, and in skin research covering wound healing, psoriasis-like conditions, and general skin inflammation.
